Astro/Vedic Series Statement
This series is a study of the elements that represent the commonly known astrological signs. Every illustration includes the colors, chakra, constellation, and flora associated with each sign depicted in ink with care for detail. These drawings are an extension of Sowolu’s investigations of the natural world through art, research and gardening.
About the Artist
Sowolu’s creations build upon her multifaceted background and a passion for journalistic research. Drawing inspiration from her mixed heritage, MRKH syndrome, and a strong research foundation she strives to create pieces that play with identity, symbolism, and femininity. ‘Sowolu’ is a Germanic rune symbolizing the Sun, the ultimate life force. This rune stands for wholeness and a sense of well being that is founded in the Sun’s energy and the cyclical aspect of nature.
Latest work (below)- A few pieces from her latest illustrations continue Sowolu’s exploration of femininity through a more direct and unabashedly sexual lens. In an effort to continue molding the idea of “feminine” as soft, strong and bold all at once, she combines traditionally feminine or softer color with strong, clear lines in smooth and inviting forms.
