Exploring Nunda's Native American Heritage

The Nunda Historical Society presents a history adventure as part of our First Sunday series. Join us to Explore Nunda’s Native History through activities, demonstrations and more. 

  • Throw the ancient atlatl with Douglas Bassett, Letchworth Park Naturalist and eight time World Atlatl Association Champion 

  • Watch Ken Wallace, one of the finest flintknappers in the Northeast, demonstrate stone and bone tool making 

  • Learn to identify Native American artifacts with Nunda resident John Gordinier. John will show and discuss several types of local Native artifacts. You can also bring in artifacts to be identified. 

  • View the NHS exhibit “Nunda’s Native Heritage” 

  • Watch the presentation “Onondao, Where the Old Ones Dwell,” which will run throughout the afternoon.

This event is free, open to the public, handicapped accessible, and made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts. Current CDC guidelines will be followed.
