GO ART!’s annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration invites you to come learn about and enjoy this Mexican holiday that remembers ancestors. The festivities will include crafts, face painting, dance and drama performances, sand painting and ofrenda displays, special food tastings, and food trucks. All activities will continue throughout the day at this free, family-friendly event. A full schedule can be found at www.MedinaDoD.com. This event is co-sponsored by the Orleans County YMCA and Mariachi de Oro Mexican Grill, and made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
The Mexican Day of the Dead Celebration is a time of joyful remembrance of deceased loved ones, filled with an array of colors, scents, sounds and stories. Linked historically to the observance of All Saints and All Souls Days on November 1 and 2, the celebration also includes images and ideas about the roles of ancestors in our lives, that trace back to Mexico’s indigenous peoples. These days are reserved to welcome the memory of those who have died, communing with them in a celebration of life with families, friends and neighbors.
Presented by GO ART!, Orleans County YMCA, Mariachi de Oro.
