The evening's program will take the audience back to the days when the forests and fields of Letchworth Park were filled with the sights and sounds of hundreds of enrollees of President Franklin Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps, one of his most successful and popular New Deal Program. The talk, which will include dozens of period photographs, will focus on one of the Park's four camps - Camp 23 on the east side of the Genesee River at Big Bend. Local historian and author Tom Cook will be exploring how the camp was established, what camp life was like for the enrollees, army officers and civilian employees who lived at the camp. The many work projects building, roads, buildings, walls and trails as well as forest management will also be highlighted. Tom will also be discussing how and why the camp was closed and the legacy the CCC Boys left behind in Letchworth Park. There will also be special displays and an explanation on how people can explore their own CCC connection!
