    The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA) home of The New Deal Museum (NDM), is proud to announce a joint opening reception on May 8 from 5:00–7:00 PM. It celebrates both GVCA’s Annual Members Show and the unveiling of a significant new exhibition, “A Painting’s Work Is Never Done: New Loans from the Federal Art Project.” This landmark exhibition marks the debut of a major addition to the New Deal Collection, following a June 2025 visit by museum staff to Washington, D.C. There, they secured a long-term loan of more than 180 artworks from the General Services Administration (GSA).

  • "The Hands that Make US"

    Mount Morris, NY - The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA) is excited to announce a $30,000 grant award for 2026 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The grant will support The Hands That Make US, a county-wide artwork creation to celebrate our country’s semiquincentennial as part of the nationwide, America 250 project. The project is inspired by Livingston County’s strong connections to the foundational history of the United States, and our unique collection of Federal Art paintings, created in the 1930s as part of the Works Progress Administration to employ artists. These paintings hung in patient’s rooms at the tuberculosis sanatorium on Murray Hill in Mt. Morris from 1936 until its closing in 1971.

  • Local Artists Receive Grants to Support Poetry, Music Projects in 2026 12/19/25

    Mount Morris, NY - The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts is excited to announce that two local artists have been awarded grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), in the Individual Artist and Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship programs. GVCA is the fiscal sponsor for these state arts grants, affording artists an opportunity to seek funding for their work beyond local and regional sources. The grant award is $10,000 for each recipient.

  • Statewide Community Regrant Program 12/19/25

    Genesee Valley Council on the Arts is proud to announce that it is gearing up for the 2026 round of funding through the Statewide Community Regrant Program, made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. The Statewide Community Regrant Program was developed by the New York State Council on the Arts, in 1977, in response to a mandate by New York’s Legislature that there be a greater local involvement in funding decisions, affecting local non-profit organizations, offering artistic or cultural services and programs, and to ensure New York State’s cultural funding reached every part of the State.

  • NYSCA Grant Recipient 8/28/25

    Genesee Valley Council on the Arts is one of this year’s Technical Assistance grantees. Their grant of $5,025 will fund an MEP Analysis. The Preservation League of NYS and their program partners at the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) are thrilled to help fund this important work. At its 2025 meeting, an independent panel selected 31 applicants in 20 counties to receive support totaling $347,500. Grants represent both of the League’s signature NYSCA regrants – Preserve New York (PNY) and Technical Assistance Grants (TAG).

  • Haunted House Survive the Sanitorium 10/13/25

    The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts is keeping the arts alive... or at the very least, keeping them undead. This year's "Keep the Arts Alive" haunted house theme is "Survive the Sanitorium." GVA "spook specialist" Natalie Marino and "lead scare actor" Janelle Hines tell us more. You can visit the haunted house from 7 to 11pm on Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 4 Murray Hill in Mount Morris.

  • Arts Perspective: Artist draws community together with illustration, volunteering

    The highest compliment Joshua M. Coon has received for his artwork came from a woman who had an Easter Bunny tattooed on her arm. The design was an illustration he created and posted to Instagram. “First she bought a sticker of the bunny and then she took it to a tattoo artist to have the bunny replicated on her arm,” exclaimed Coon. “She apparently plans to look at my artwork for the rest of her life!”

  • Haunted House Official 2026 Merch Design Contest

    The Haunted House, located in a historic 1930’s tuberculosis hospital, at 4 Murray Hill Drive in Mount Morris, NY will be open to the Public October 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, & 31 from 7pm - 11pm. This year’s haunted theme is “Blood Ward,” inspired by the chilling atmosphere of a fictional 1930 Vampire Containment Facility, where dim hallways, ongoing operations, and mysterious experiments set the stage for a haunting experience. Artists are encouraged to create designs that capture the eerie spirit of the Blood Ward, while reflecting the vintage medical setting that defines the Survive the Sanatorium theme, with a mortality twist; Vampires!
