Rochester NY: This summer, Writers & Books’ youth camp program, SummerWrite,
will be offering a unique workshop specifically for Deaf and hard-of-hearing
students. With instruction from faculty member Stacy Lawrence, students will
create short films inspired by field trips around Rochester that showcase landmarks
specific to our city’s Deaf history. Welcome to “Deaf Lens: A Filmmaking Workshop”.
From the camp description: Under the guidance of artists who respect American
Sign Language, twelve young filmmakers will be assigned roles and divided into two
teams, to take their chance to win the Deaf Eyes! Challenge, a friendly competition
that will be judged by distinguished members of the Rochester community at the
end of this workshop.
